The Route
The modern-day route of US-85 follows Interstate 10 from the Texas border to Interstate 25 at Las Cruces, then it follows I-25 for the remainder of its length through New Mexico, leaving the state and crossing into Colorado at Raton Pass. US-85 is not signed, and apparently the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) has removed US-85 from the state's route logs, although the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) continues to maintain the existence of US-85 using the I-10 and I-25 routes through New Mexico as the logical link between signed sections of US-85 in Texas and Colorado. US-85 serves the cities of Las Cruces, Truth or Consequences, Socorro, Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Las Vegas, Wagon Mound, Springer, and Raton.
